It is necessary for believers in need of taking the Money Turtles home to register at the service counter of Zi Nan Temple noting the type demanded (Lantern Festival, Land God’s Birth and Moon Festival Money Turtles) 08:00-12:00 a.m. on the 15th of lunar Jan and those finishing registra- tion have to join block divination for Money Turtles comm- encing at 01:00 p.m. on the very day sponsored by the Chief Executive Manager (CEM) of the Board of Managers of Zi Nan Temple to determine whether the 3 Money Turtles can be taken home. Only the 3 believers obtaining Holy Blocks symbolizing the consent of Land God can take the Turtles home. The 3 believers taking the 3 Turtles home must return them with Red Envelopes on them to Zi Nan Temple on the 15th of lunar Jan the next year. The ritual of the next year commences after the 3 Turtles are returned.
The ritual Taking Lantern Festival Money Turtle home commenced on the Lantern Festival in 1983 when Mr. Tzeng Wan-fu a resident in Fuzhou Village worshipped the Land God of Zi Nan Temple with a Lantern Festival Money Turtle made by himself for the boom of business and good
fortune for all. This Money Turtle was taken home by himself for the consecutive 3 years in terms of Holy Blocks. As returning this Turtle to Zi Nan Temple on the Lantern Festival, he also hosted a piece of traditional Taiwanese opera in front of the Land God to thank Him in addition to Red Envelops on it.
The ritual Taking Land God’s Birth and Moon Festival Money Turtles home commenced in 1986 when Zi Nan Temple decided to order the Land God’s Birth and Moon Festival Money Turtles in Tainan after obtaining the consent of the Land God in terms of Holy Blocks in response to desperate anticipation of taking Money Turtles home. As obtaining the consent of Mr. Tzeng, the 3 Turtles were available to the believers in need of taking the 3 Turtles (Lantern Festival, Land God’s Birth and Moon Festival Money Turtles of the 15th of lunar Jan, the 2nd of lunar Feb and the 15th of lunar Aug respect- ively) home through block divination on the Lantern Festival in 1986.
This folklore ritual commencing in 1983 lasts for the consecutive 20 years and the believers having taken the 3 Turtles home enjoy good fortune and boom of business under the blessing and protection of the Land God. Accordingly, the number in need of taking the Turtles home is increasing and the Turtles symbolize the mascot of entrepreneurs.
